"Go out into the world today and
love the people you meet. Let your presence light new light in the hearts
of people." - Mother Teresa
The December holiday season is filled with celebrations of light and
miracles. The Winter Solstice honors the darkest day of the year and the
promise of the returning sunlight. Christmas lights decorate homes and
streets celebrating the joyful birth of Jesus the Christ, the Light of
the World. And the glow of the Chanukah menorah candles represents the
miracle of the holy oil that burned for eight days when the tiny lamp had
only enough oil for one day.
The holidays are a time of gift-giving, holiday parties and gatherings
with loved ones. But our expectations of how it all should look and feel
can get in the way of truly being present to our experiences. Getting
caught up in the pressure to get just the right gifts, create the perfect
celebrations, receive whatever it is we think we're entitled to receive from others, can take us away
from the true meaning of these holy-days and can be exhausting!
I invite you to take a few deep, slow breaths. Placing your hand on your
heart, breathe into your heart, and begin to become aware of the radiant,
peaceful, joyful light that you are! Let the lights of the season
penetrate your soul and awaken you to your true nature. Your heartfelt
presence is the greatest gift you have to offer the world. It's what we all yearn
for. It is enough.
What kind of holiday would you like to create? How about offering peace
and loving to yourself and those around you. Make time for self-care.
Practice random acts of kindness. "Let your
presence light new light in the hearts of people." Enjoy the miracle
of small, unexpected moments of peace, delight and love.
Release any expectations about how the holidays should go, show up with
an open mind and heart, and welcome and appreciate whatever does unfold.
Seize the opportunity to joyously radiate the light that you are and help
illuminate our planet with love, peace and joy.
In the powerful words of Marianne Williamson:
We were born to make manifest
the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of
us;
it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.
Many blessings and Happy Holy-days!!
Carol
